The Fifth Estate - on high performance housing

Thanks to Cameron Jewell at The Fifth Estate for the coverage on the work we've been doing here at Habitech to prove how our houses perform. We'd love to see this issue gain some political momentum, following the recent release of the National Energy Efficient Building Project report, which showed that current Australian houses being built are not delivering anywhere near the energy efficiency standards that they promise.

The report, which conducted interviews with over 1,000 building industry stakeholders around Australia, concluded "Many stakeholders believe that Code compliance is poor and, further, that Australia’s building energy performance falls a long way short of best practice. This implies higher energy use, higher emissions and higher overall costs for building owners and occupants."

Habitech knows that relying on the vagaries of ‘designed’ energy ratings is a risky business - so our houses are tested ‘as-built’ and their modular design and building system has now been confirmed to be light years ahead of the industry for insulation and airtightness performance.

In a recent Melbourne University study, Habitech's Alpine House significantly outperformed the predictions of energy rating software, validating the thermal integrity of their modular building system.
